Record Highs Despite Govt. Shutdown

U.S. stock futures are slightly higher ahead of the Wall Street open as investors pushed aside the implications of the U.S. government shutdown.
The S&P 500 (SPX), Nasdaq-100 (NDX) and Dow Index ($DJI) all settled at record high closes despite the shutdown.
There are no votes planned for today with the Senate set to be out of session Thursday in observance of Yom Kippur, making Friday the next day Senators would be expected to vote again.
The shutdown will also impact economic data reports with no Jobless Claims or Factory Orders reported today along with no September payrolls report tomorrow morning.

Gold (/GC) – Gold prices are up 0.3% near $3910, near yesterday’s all-time high and just shy of $4,000 per ounce, as the U.S. government entered its first shutdown in almost seven years after lawmakers failed to reach a deal on government funding.

VIX – The CBOE Volatility Index was flat on Wednesday and settled at 16.29 as stocks were modestly higher.
