Morning Watchlist: Earnings are Outperforming... For Now

U.S. stock futures are slightly lower ahead of the Wall Street open following two consecutive days of gains for the S&P 500, driven by tech sector strength. Investors awaited new first-quarter earnings and key economic data, including March import/export price indexes and the Empire State Manufacturing Survey. Market optimism was supported by U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Friday guidance exempting electronics like smartphones and semiconductors from reciprocal tariffs, though remarks from President Trump and Commerce Secretary Lutnick hinted these exemptions could be short-lived. Bank earnings are a focal point for the day with results due from Citigroup (C) and Bank of America (BAC) this morning.
